Governor Lamont to High School Students: Get Good Grades and Receive Automatic Admission To Several Colleges and Universities

As the 2025-2026 school year has begun, Governor Ned Lamont today is reminding Connecticut’s high school students that if they earn good grades, they can receive automatic admission to several public and private colleges and universities under a recently launched state program that simplifies the process of seeking higher education.

Established in 2022, the
Connecticut Automatic Admission Program (CAAP) is open to all graduating Connecticut high school seniors who have a 3.0 weighted grade point average (GPA) or a 2.75 unweighted GPA. Students need to fill out only one application, and they will be automatically admitted to the program’s 10 participating colleges and universities. The program waives the application fees, student essays, and recommendation letters that are typically associated with the admissions process.

Participating colleges and universities include:
  • Central Connecticut State University
  • Eastern Connecticut State University
  • Southern Connecticut State University
  • Western Connecticut State University
  • Albertus Magnus College
  • Goodwin University
  • Mitchell College
  • University of Bridgeport
  • University of Hartford
  • University of New Haven

Williamson College of the Trades

Williamson College of the Trades is a men's junior trade college located in Middletown Township nearMedia, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia.

It was founded on December 1, 1888 as the Williamson Free School of Mechanical Trades by Isaiah Vansant Williamson, and opened in 1901. On July 1, 2015 it was officially renamed Williamson College of the Trades.[3] It is not affiliated with any religious organization, although it does subscribe to a "Judeo-Christian" belief system.[4]:95
Williamson is the only trade college in the United States of America that gives all students full scholarships to cover tuition, textbooks, and room and board. The college uses their endowment to cover two-thirds of their student costs each year, with the rest coming from private fundraising. The college and its students do not accept federal financial aid. Williamson is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology.

Students must be  male residents of the US without criminal conviction, under 20 years old and unmarried.  See the video below by clicking on it.

Yale University

Yale has partnered with Coursera, an educational technology platform, to offer massive open online courses (MOOCs) for anyone to take, for free. Coursera’s platform differs from earlier open education initiative such as Open Yale Courses in several significant respects:
  1. Coursera requires all learners to register for the site and enroll in courses;
  2. Coursera is interactive, and assessment is at the heart of the learning experience;
  3. Coursera provides student assessment through machine-graded quizzes and peer-reviewed writing assignments;
  4. although some longer lectures are posted (as in OYC), the typical course on Coursera takes the subject matter covered in a fifty-minute lecture and breaks it into shorter units, and the platform allows the instructor to insert quiz questions at any point in the video segment; and
  5. all students start the course online at the same time and have weekly homework and assignments that must be posted by certain deadlines.
